GTCR and Bruce Rauner in spotlight again with Rauner's run for Illinois governor - Chicago Tribune

Rauner, a Republican, and his former firm, Chicago-based GTCR, aren't as well-known nationally as Romney and Bain, but they can expect to be scrutinized, especially if Rauner's candidacy gains momentum.

Founded in 1980, what's now GTCR — the R stands for Rauner — has invested $10 billion in more than 200 companies. Rauner, who joined the firm in 1981 and whose name was added to the door in 1987, retired in October to become more active in politics.

Here are are some of GTCR companies not all of them are success stories:

HSM Electronic Protection Services

Actient Pharmaceuticals

ATI Physical Therapy

DB Aviation

ForeFront Education

InteCap

Invenergy

Lighthouse Global Net

LiquidPoint

Morton Grove Pharmaceuticals

Ovation Pharmaceuticals

PrivateBancorp

Wilton Industries
