Gov. Rauner, Illinois legislators reach compromises on parts of state budget | WEEK News 25 - News, Sports, Weather - Peoria, Illinois | Top Stories

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- As Illinois enters its sixth month with no state budget, a compromise has been made on a partial spending plan for local governments and public safety.

The Illinois House passed Senate Bill 2039, allowing the release of motor fuel tax and 911 funds already collected.

Ill. Gov. Bruce Rauner, Republican, wanted additional money released for road salt and police training.

In a compromise, $28 million for domestic violence shelters and Secretary of State operations also made it through.

The State Senate will return Monday to vote on it.

Rauner gave his thoughts about when a complete budget might happen, saying, “My sense is we are a little bit of a treading water phase, we hit this in the spring when we did our compromises. The speaker has made it clear that he doesn't really want to take any tough votes until January, because in January, votes only require a simple majority, they don't need a super majority."

Gov. Rauner and top party leaders will meet again, face to face, next week in Chicago
