Union: Stellantis to offer Belvidere plant workers $6K to $30K to take jobs elsewhere

Stellantis plans to offer Belvidere Assembly Plant workers the chance to apply for a transfer to open positions at other factories once indefinite layoffs begin Feb. 28, according to information from the United Auto Workers Local 1268.

The maker of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Fiat and Ram among other brands, announced Dec. 9 that it would "idle" the Belvidere factory at the end of February and layoff what it said were the 1,350 remaining workers at the factory.

Stellantis said it would "make every effort to place indefinitely laid-off employees in open full-time positions as they become available."
Information posted on the Local 1268 Facebook page indicates that the company is offering $6,000 in relocation assistance to employees who volunteer for jobs in other markets possibly in areas like Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, and Kokomo, Indiana among others.
Some workers could be eligible to request a return to the Belvidere Assembly Plant after six months if it is operating.
