KANE COUNTY – Gov. JB Pritzker announced more restrictions for Region 8, which includes Kane and DuPage counties, to slow the recent surge of COVID-19 infections. The restrictions go into effect on Friday.

In a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Pritzker announced that indoor dining and bar service will be prohibited, and gatherings will be limited to 25 people.

As of Tuesday, the West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 10 days of positivity increases in the past 10 days and five days of hospital admission increases in the past 10 days. The region's positivity rate increased from 8.5% to 9.0%. Currently, 34% of medical/surgical beds and 44% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County's rolling seven-day positivity average increased from 10.9% to 11.9%.

The Tier 1 restrictions will be in effect for at least two weeks, and the region must have a positivity rate of 6.5% or lower for three consecutive days before they're lifted. Additional restrictions may be put into place if the positivity rate remains at 8% or increases during the 14 days of initial mitigations.

The new mitigations do not affect gyms, sports, salons or non-essential retail. Tier 2 and Tier 3 mitigations could further limit gatherings and temporarily shutter gyms, salons, in-person shopping for non-essential retail and limit elective surgeries at hospitals.
