Clout St: No shortage of mayor candidates expected

Now every politician who has dreamed of replacing Daley will get their chance in next February's city elections.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, who has raised his profile in recent years by going after Craigslist prostitution advertisements and overseeing the cleanup of Burr Oak Cemetery after uncovering a grave-reselling scheme, is one potential candidate.

Assessor James Houlihan, also has been mentioned as possibility. Houlihan is not seeking re-election but long has talked about running for higher office.

Among aldermen discussed as potential mayoral candidates are Robert Fioretti, 2nd; Sandi Jackson, 7th; Thomas Allen, 38th; Scott Waguespack, 32nd; Brendan Reilly, 42nd; and Thomas Tunney, 44th.

Earlier this year, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel voiced his mayoral ambitions

Ald. Edward Burke, 14th, chairman of the powerful City Council Finance Committee and the council's longest-serving member, would not rule out now running for mayor himself.
