5 Belvidere aldermen, mayor to back proposed cuts, layoffs -

employees shared between the city and county, they will maintain five-day workweeks.
“Being joint employees, they would only be affected if the County Board were asked to approve the same thing,” Boone County Administrator Ken Terrinoni said. “If the city intended that to affect the positions we jointly fund, then they would have to ask the County Board to do likewise.”

cuts proposed by the mayor are needed to help the city avoid dropping its general fund balance to less than $600,000, or just three weeks of reserves. Still, it will only reduce the $1.1 million shortfall in the budget by $250,000.

Don Larson:  Like to hear the reasons why the city/county employees can't drive their own cars to work....including the police. I sure wish I got a free tank of gas every week..and a free car to drive..with free insurance...this will save the gas that's wasted and the depreciation on the vehicle, and it will last longer if ONLY used for work..like it should be
