A resolution was introduced earlier this year in the Illinois House to require Holland [Illinois’ elected Auditor General] to conduct a comprehensive audit. It is estimated the audit would cost $60 million, but that it could save up to $1.25 billion in extravagant spending if elected officials and top state administrators use the results to cut waste and streamline operations.
Unfortunately, the idea has been blocked by the Democrats in charge.
Every effort should be made to give taxpayers full value for the money they entrust to the government. They should not receive a partial return on their investment.
