Poplar Grove, sheriff's contract up in the air

“If they cancel it, that’s two officers I’d have to put on lay off. It would be devastating,” Wirth said….

Under the existing agreement, Poplar Grove pays the Sheriff’s Department $12,707.69 a month, enough to cover wages and benefits for two full-time deputies who work 12-hour shifts on rotating days. The village also furnishes the squad cars those deputies use.

County Administrator Ken Terrinoni wasn’t involved in the contract between the village and the Sheriff’s Department, but said the loss of the it could be devastating.  “Losing that revenue would be very serious for a department that has a balanced budget with a lot of bandages on it,” he said.
