Jeffrey Carlisle will serve as vice-chairman of the board

BELVIDERE - The Boone County Board selected a new chairman and vice-chairman today.
A majority chose Karl Johnson, who has served several years as a board member, to replace Bob Walberg as chairman.
Jeffrey Carlisle, a board member for two years, will replace Johnson as vice-chairman.
"I want to see what we can do to get the county on a better financial standing," said Johnson, who wants to work more with other communities. "We need to promote the county to outside businesses.
"We need to have a good solid working relationships with other communities."
Both Johnson, 48, and Carlisle, 62, are proponents of cutting spendin and increasing revenue.
"If I can do something good here, I'll do it," Carlisle said. "We have a lot of land where people can actually do small businesses."
Walberg did not run for re-election after serving two four-year terms on the board. He initially was appointed chairman in 2008. Board members reappointed him to the role in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

Area county boards select their leaders
Counties across the Stateline area have selected their picks for county board leadership.
The Ogle County Board appointed Kim Gouker as its chairman.
In Stephenson County, William Hadley is now serving a third two-year term as chairman.
The Lee County Board elected Jim Wentling as the new chairman. The Republican takes over from Democrat Rick Ketchum, who did not seek re-election as chairman.
The Boone County Board elected Karl Johnson as chair by a 6 to 5 vote. Bob Walbert is the outgoing chairman.
In DeKalb County, Mark Pietrowski Jr. was elected to a second term as Board Chairman.
