Boone County has new board members
Newhouse wants land use policies that maintain open spaces and enhance retail areas.
Newhouse and Ellingson beat out independent William Randall III, 45, of Poplar Grove, who gathered 26 percent of the vote.
In District 3, Democrat incumbent Jessica Muellner, 47, of Belvidere, and Republican Carl Larson, 39, of Belvidere, claimed victory with 36 percent and 34 percent, respectively. Republican Marion Thornberry, 69, of Belvidere, got 30 percent.
Muellner wants to bring more diversity to the County Board's discussions. Larson wants to preserve services such as food pantries and senior transportation.
“We want to keep those programs definitely alive and running for people,” Larson said.
Belvidere Republicans Bernard O'Malley, 70, and incumbent Cathy Ward, 73, ran uncontested in District 2.
