To finance the addition the district took out a $950,000 loan, with some $500,000 in donations helping defray the overall cost of $1.4 million.
Museum officials are hoping to resume the popular series of quarterly programs later in the year. The programs included everything from a detailed presentation on the Lincoln funeral train to a portrayal of Ulysses S. Grant.
The museum opened in 1968. In 2003, the district bought some buildings along Pleasant Street and tore them down, to create open space directly north of the museum. Then, in 2007, the district purchased a bank building next door for use as a research center.
