Would the levy have decreased without the challengers in the past primary and election?
Murphy said he hoped tax levies for the town fund and road fund would be decreased again this year. They went down by 22 and 24 percent, respectively, last year as township officials try to spend down some of the fund balances.
But at the same time they are keeping enough money on hand should there be major, unforeseen problems….
General assistance, which allows the township to help people in need, saw its fund balance increase from $231,000 to $255,027, with revenue amounting to $62,666 and expenses $38,639….
A sizeable, upcoming expense could be construction of a new office building. “It’s not conducive to privacy,” Murphy said of the current structure on the south side of the cemetery. “They do a great job with the money they have.”
