The Rockford metro area’s unemployment rate increased slightly in September to 14.8 percent, the third month-to-month increase in four months.

- Belvidere: 16.2 percent
- Freeport: 11.9 percent
- Winnebago County: 14.8 percent
- Boone County: 14.8 percent
- Ogle County: 13 percent
