Currently, the project’s largest hurdle is whether cities can reach an agreement on the precise route the service would take. The bulk of the discussion concerns construction east of Freeport. City officials and business leaders are determining whether the route should run through Belvidere or Genoa prior to reaching Freeport.
“The biggest thing is to get consensus on the route,” Griswold said. “Once the rail goes west of Rockford, there is really only one route.”
The city[of Freeport] plans to allocate Tax Increment Financing (TIF) dollars to build a platform at Tutty’s Crossing. Gaulrapp said construction on the platform would likely begin in late 2010 or early 2011
