Boone County leaders ponder the past, present and future | Belvidere Daily Republican

County board Chairman Bob Walberg said he was optimistic about the future. He has been meeting regularly with Belvidere’s new mayor, Mike Chamberlain, who shares the idea of moving ahead and progressing.

Getting there is a multi-faceted task.

The county must recapture its wealth, he said, by changing the current trend of so many residents working in Winnebago County, with a lot of Winnebago County workers traveling here for jobs.

City and county officials are working hard to complete the Irene Road interchange at Interstate 90. The thinking is to have both the on and off-ramps for southbound traffic in the southeastern quadrant of the interchange. That would leave the on-ramp for northbound traffic as the only remaining leg.
