Well Boone County Taxpayers you better get ready-- the 6 figure income from DeKalb prisoners being housed in Boone County maybe in jeopardy.
DeKalb County pays the jail at Boone County sufficiently, that over $125,000 in net income is budgeted as annual income by Boone County. That income will be gone soon if DeKalb can add onto its own jail.
The DeKalb County Board’s Finance Committee made a recommendation to the county board to have that zone include the whole county, with an intention to finance building expansions to both the jail and the courthouse on the county’s Sycamore campus.
County officials have grappled with an overcrowded jail and courthouse for years. In July, the county board authorized administrators to begin working on a capital funding plan for the courthouse and jail, with the idea to sell bonds to finance the new construction
