The landfill that gassed out dozens of stateline elementary school children and staff says it'll pay up.
According to the DeKalb Daily Chronicle, Waste Management will cover the costs of the medical bills of the nearly 70 people hospitalized tuesday.
They were sickened after a strong odor from the landfill drifted to the school thanks to strong winds, and workers digging in year-old trash.
No one was seriously injured.

State suspends Rockford doc for sexual misconduct - News - Rockford Register Star - Rockford, IL

 

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation will hold a hearing at 10 a.m. Jan. 28 regarding the complaints against Dr. Charles DeHaan. DeHaan is involved with a private practice called Housecall Physicians Group of Rockford.
According to the state's temporary suspension petition, the Rockford Police Department was contacted several times by patients and by administrators at senior residential facilities between 2009 and 2013 about the issues. The complaints involved inappropriate sexual conduct with elderly patients of his home-care practice, as well as inappropriate comments made to several female patients and caregivers while he was conducting home visits and seeing patients.

Future of wind farm development unclear after split vote in Boone County - News - Rockford Register Star - Rockford, IL

The Ireland-based company plans to build a $300 million to $400 million wind farm with as many as 100 turbines on 12,000 acres in Manchester and LeRoy townships. The business has other projects under development in Lee, Bureau and Whiteside counties.
Green said he did not know when an application for a Boone County project would be filed because the company is still gathering information needed for the paperwork. However, he said the board's narrow defeat of the more-restrictive zoning ordinance Wednesday gives company leaders comfort in investing more dollars into the project.
He said the community can look at each specific project application on its own merits, rather than making broad statements for or against wind energy development in general. That itself could break a tie vote.

Rockford one of 7 new cities in Obama's Strong Cities, Strong Communities program - News - Rockford Register Star - Rockford, IL

The Obama administration has selected Rockford to participate in a federal program to help the city prevent crime and move people out of poverty and into jobs.
Rockford was among seven economically distressed cities selected Thursday for the second round of Strong Cities, Strong Communities. The program will bring a team of full-time, part-time and advisory federal personnel to town to help the city cut through red tape among federal agencies and make more efficient use of the city's existing federal aid.
The city, along with partners such as the Workforce Investment Board, Rockford Housing Authority and others, receive millions of federal dollars every year to address housing, transportation, education, job training and other initiatives.
