Next Wisconsin gov has Boone family ties - Rockford, IL - Rockford Register Star

Republican Gov-elect Scott walker speaks to reporters Nov. 3 outside the State Capitol in Madison. During his campaign, Walker guaranteed the creation of 250,000 jobs in his four years in office.

Although Walker never lived in Illinois, his family’s roots are in Boone County. In many campaign speeches, he used that brown-bag theme, which he credited to his grandmother, Eleanor Fitch, who lived for years in Boone County.
The story was relayed in an e-mail from Pat Fitch Walker, Scott’s mother, who was a 1956 graduate of Belvidere High School

OK needed in Belvidere on hiring 911 tech - Rockford, IL - Rockford Register Star

City Council will vote Monday on paying $9,500 in health and pension benefits for the position.

Boone County Finance Committee members unanimously pledged county money Dec. 14 for the benefits. No formal vote was taken on the matter, nor will there be one because it’s not customary practice, County Administrator Ken Terrinoni said.
“That person will be dedicated to 911 but, on occasion, for emergencies, we want that person to be available for” other work, he said. “When they cross the line and aren’t doing 911 work, we should be paying for that — the logical compromise is, we pay the benefits and they pay the salary.”
