TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — Oil transport company Enbridge says a gap has opened between a section of its Line 5 pipeline and the lake bottom in Michigan’s Straits of Mackinac. Erosion has washed away sediments beneath the pipeline, creating a space that exceeds the 75-foot limit set under a state easement. The company wants to install anchors for additional support but says the line is safe. Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office says the situation reinforces the need to shut down the pipeline.
