BELVIDERE (WREX) — After delaying the start of the season, families in Belvidere will soon be able to return to William Grady Pool.

The Belvidere Park District announced on Friday a partnership with the Belvidere Family YMCA that will allow the pool to reopen on
Thursday, June 30.

Earlier this month, the park district announced they would be delaying their opening due to the national life guard shortage.

“This is a great example of two Belvidere institutions coming together for the overall benefit of the community,” said Rick Wulbecker, Superintendent of Recreation for the Belvidere Park District. “And while the situation (of staffing issues at pools around the country) is not exclusive to us, it put us in a tenuous position for opening the pool safely."

The park district says masks will not be required, but the concessions stand will be closed. Patrons will be allowed to bring their own food, however.

"We are proud to be part of such a strong collaboration, to swiftly come together to continue the community's long-standing tradition of summer at the William Grady Pool," said Jen Jacky, CEO of the Belvidere Family YMCA.

Here's the pool's opening weekend schedule:

  • Wednesday, June 30, soft open, hours Noon- 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 1, full open, Noon-6 p.m.
  • Friday, July 2, Noon-8 p.m.
  • Saturday-Monday, July 3-5, Noon-6 p.m.
