Sarasota County has had more than 100 new cases a day for five days straight

The Florida Department of Health announced 10,059 new cases of COVID-19 in the state on Sunday, July 5. Florida now has 200,111 coronavirus cases across the state. The number of reported deaths of Florida residents increased by 29 to 3,731.
Sarasota County’s numbers jumped by 101 cases since Saturday — the fifth day in a row that new cases have been over 100. Manatee County had 162 new cases, for a total of 3,716. Both counties set new records on July 4 for number of new cases in a single day.

One of the reasons for those spikes is a surge in testing. Both Sarasota and Manatee counties had a positive test rate Sunday of 12% percent. There were no new deaths reported in Manatee or Sarasota counties on Saturday.
Statewide, 15,895 people have been hospitalized during the pandemic, or 8% of all cases. In Sarasota County, 222 people, or 10%, have been hospitalized. In Manatee County, 284 people, 8%, have been hospitalized.
The number of COVID-19 patients at Sarasota Memorial Hospital keeps climbing to new records. The hospital had a record 61 COVID-19 patients Friday, up from 56 patients on Thursday and 50 on Tuesday.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) –Illinois Department of Public Health officials announced 639 new coronavirus cases on Sunday along with 6 additional deaths.
Sunday’s death total of 6 is the lowest in a 24 hour period since March 25th. The total case count was also the lowest since June 22nd.
There are now 147,251 total cases in Illinois and 7,020 deaths. The statewide recovery rate stands at 94%.
Officials say 27, 235 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours for a total of 1,761,706.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin health officials reported the most coronavirus cases in a single day on Saturday, tallying 738 people with the virus.
As the nation prepared to celebrate Independence Day, Gov. Tony Evers urged people to cancel festivities and stay home, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
Health officials reported no new deaths from COVID-19.
Over the last two weeks, the state has seen not only an increase in confirmed cases, but also an increase in the percentage of tests that come back positive.
That’s a sign the virus is spreading, according to public health experts.
