BOONE COUNTY THIS AND THAT -
(1) The Boone County finance committee will be reviewing ways to trim its $450,000 deficit to try to balance the 2019 budget. Meeting starts at 6 p.m. tonight in the board room on Logan Ave. Please share with me ideas to help trim the budget. Numbers so far indicate that even with using the $1.5 million from public sales tax, there is still a huge deficit.

(2) A Belvidere City committee will meet tonight at 6 p.m. to discuss proposals from Plote (a gravel pit company) located in southern Boone County. Heard that Plote might want to annex to the city. It is currently in the county and has been the object of much controversy in recent years.

(3) Boone County voters are still streaming into the early voting booth in our county clerk, (Julie Stapler's) office. I went to vote on Friday and four people were waiting when the doors opened. Number of early voters way ahead of any previous years. Expect the same all over the country. Front page headline on the Rockford Register Star today said "Early Voting Shockingly High.".

(4) More rain coming, much to the dismay of farmers trying to harvest crops. Set to arrive at about noon today and rain much of the next 24 hours. We have had about 15 inches more than normal years already. Should be about 80 degrees today, but then watch for a freeze later in the week.
