RR Star: Boone County’s fourth draft of a solar ordinance
Solar farming in Boone County. If you haven’t been following it in the papers, then I will state some facts here for you. I am writing to ask you to get involved. Please email your thoughts to the county board. There are members of our county board who would like to stop solar farms from coming to Boone County with large setbacks and other conditions. Several farms have been approached for a possible solar farm. Mostly 10 to 15 acres. Solar farms needs to be close to a substation and powerline. So, they cannot be put just anywhere. Neighboring counties are already approving solar farms. The current proposed set backs are 250 feet from all property lines, with the discussion of the possibility to increase the setbacks to 500 feet. Also, they would like to require 8 foot fence, either chain link or privacy. Solar is less intrusive, less noise, less pollutant. The solar companies will be planting native grasses and ground covers and when the panels are decommissioned. The ground cover will be plowed in which puts rich nitrogen and more back into the soil. The panels are 98% recyclable. Boone County like all of Illinois need tax dollars and jobs. This would bring both. Suggestion for setbacks: 150 ft. from center of highways, 50 ft. from center of county rds. 40 ft. from property lines 250 ft. from a residential area Ask yourself, do you want these board member make decisions on their personal views or the views of everyone in Boone County. Do you want your taxes continue to go up. Common wealth Edison will continue to raise electricity. Illinois wants 25% in renewable energy by 2025. Please share
