This is one of the most commented letters for the week in the Northwest Herald. It is not just the issue, it is the public sentiment towards public employees in general.
…“It’s time we taxpayers demanded a halt to the absurdity that forces us to continue paying local government employees when they choose to no longer work. It’s time to pass a law that says new local government employees cannot participate in pensions”….
The treasurers’ offices in Boone, Ogle and Winnebago counties are trying to collect a record $647.5 million in property taxes this year. That’s $11.5 million more than last year.
BOONE COUNTY - The Boone County Sheriff's Department recently concluded a DUI patrol campaign.
During the past few weeks deputies were working on hire-back during the night-time hours looking specifically for DUI offenders.
These patrols were funded from a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation. There were 11 patrols and they netted 10 DUI arrests.
One subject arrested for DUI was a juvenile. The other DUI offenders arrested were Bryce Strang, 20, of Garden Prairie; Daniel Zuniga, 25, of Belvidere; Elvin Parker, 43, of Rockford; Erik Paddock, 19, of Machesney Park; Roger Hodgkinson, 54, of Belvidere; Jaime Rosas, 37, of Capron; Alex Pietrarosso, 19, of Marengo; Jacob Axtell, 18, of Caledonia; and Joshua Surmo, 21, of Rockford.

City Hall will be closed to Freeport residents June 4, marking the first of 13 consecutive Fridays that the facility will be unavailable to the public.
