Tom Bucher for Belvidere School Board
Hello all, I hope you are doing well! First, thank you for the encouragement, excitement, and support over the past week. Thank you to those of you who have reached out to ask about my reasons for running and my thoughts about specific topics.
Just wanted to give you the background of my journey and why I decided to run for the school board. I work for a medical device company and my wife is a teacher. In fact, both of her parents were teachers as well. We have three boys. Our oldest son graduated from North, and we have a junior at North and a 7th grader at Central.
My family lived in Rockford for 18 years, and our kids were in private schools. My wife and I discussed finding a home with a big yard in a district with good public schools. We wanted our kids to attend schools more reflective of those my wife and I grew up in. We spent years researching and house hunting in all the communities surrounding Rockford. We finally decided on Belvidere and have been here for 5 years. We loved the community, the location, the people, and the school district. At the time, Belvidere was growing like crazy. It was the place students, families, and teachers wanted to be. The district was healthy and doing well academically. Fast forward several years. District enrollment is down and we are losing many kids to the private schools. I believe we are no longer the destination district we once were. For lack of a better term, we have lost our “mojo.” Last fall, I met with the superintendent and individually, with all but one of the board members. I was looking for answers. I wanted to know how each of them viewed their role and what they were doing to ensure that our district and students thrive. After nine months of substandard answers, I felt compelled to do something about it, I’m committed to doing the work, and I want to represent you.
I will be posting more in the coming days. Please feel free to reach out with your questions and let me know your thoughts. I want to get Belvidere’s Mojo back! Let's work together to get this done!
Sincerely,
Tom Bucher

Matt Zickert For Belvidere School Board
Thank you everyone for your continued support of my candidacy for the Belvidere School Board. For those of you who don’t know me personally here is a short summary of my career in education:
- I have worked in schools for 36 years as a Teacher, Building & District Administrator, 3 Sport Coach, and Summer Custodian
- I worked for the Belvidere School District for 8 years: 4 as Principal of Belvidere High School and 4 as an Assistant Superintendent
- My 2 children were K-12 graduates of Belvidere Schools
- My wife was a teacher at Caledonia Elementary for about 30 years
I know firsthand this district has great students, teachers, support staff, and a supportive community. However, I am aware of some issues facing the district including loss of enrollment, spending priorities, academic achievement, grading system debate, and a lack of true stakeholder collaboration. I’m running for a position on the Belvidere School Board for many reasons, but most importantly because I care. I care about our students being set up for success, our teachers and staff feeling valued and supported, and that our community’s voice is being heard.
Thank you again for all your support, it’s greatly appreciated.

WHY RUN NOW?
I've raised 10 kids 4 of whom have special needs. This brings a perspective not currently represented on the board.
