Illinois posts answers about health insurance pool

program for people with pre-existing medical problems is likely to be on a first-come, first-served basis. But the race for coverage won't start until next month.

218,000 people might be eligible for a high-risk pool in Illinois, according to a 2008 U.S. Government Accountability Office report. But only about 4,000 to 6,000 people will be enrolled in the program

there's no pre-enrollment or waiting list

department also warns people currently enrolled in a separate Illinois high-risk pool that they shouldn't drop that coverage in hopes of lowering their premiums by joining the new pool. With the new program limited in enrollment, there's no guarantee of getting in.
