DeKalb County reviews small wind turbines

– The county is considering a change to its zoning laws that would allow small wind towers on properties as small as one acre.

Currently, small wind energy systems – those that generate 100 or fewer kilowatts of electricity – are allowed on lots that are at least 2 acres in size within unincorporated DeKalb County

Besides the $15,000 price tag small turbines can carry, some properties – even if they’re the right size – are not ideal for generating wind power.
anyone applying for a permit has to show that the height of the tower meets setback requirements set forth in the county ordinance.
